Plan managed and self managed NDIS physio, Sydney

You do not need a registered provider. If your plan is plan managed or self managed, you can bring your funding to SportsFit at Five Dock or Gladesville.

SportsFit is not a registered NDIS provider, and for most participants that makes no difference. Registration only limits who can work with agency managed plans. If you are plan managed or self managed, the choice of provider is yours.

That covers the majority of participants we see. The pages below set out which category you fall into, what we need from you, and what happens between your first call and your first appointment.

Know your management type

Which kind of NDIS plan do you have?

There are three ways an NDIS plan can be managed. Two of them let you work with us. The front page of your plan states which one you have.

Plan managed

A registered plan manager handles your invoices. You choose your own providers, including unregistered ones, and your plan manager pays us from your plan budget. Nothing is payable by you at the appointment.

Self managed

You hold your own budget. You pay us at the appointment and claim it back through the myplace participant portal. We give you an invoice with the service description and dates the NDIA asks for.

Agency managed

The NDIA pays your providers directly and they must be registered. We cannot invoice an agency managed plan. You can ask your planner about changing your management type at your next plan review.

From first call to first session

How it works at SportsFit

1. Book a free 15 minute call

Tell us you are an NDIS participant and which way your plan is managed. We work out whether what you want is something we can help with, and which clinician is the right fit. There is no cost and no obligation.

2. Service agreement

We send a service agreement setting out the services, the fees and the NDIS support categories they sit under. You sign it and pass it to your plan manager. This is ordinary NDIS practice and plan managers expect it.

3. Your first appointment

You attend at Five Dock or Gladesville. We assess you, agree a programme, and write your goals in the language the NDIA uses so they read across to your plan at review time.

4. Reports at review

Ahead of a plan review we can provide a progress report describing what has changed, what is still limiting you and what we would recommend next. Ask for it early, because reviews come around faster than people expect.

Which support category does this sit under?

Physiotherapy and exercise physiology are usually funded from Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building). Some participants also draw on Improved Health and Wellbeing. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm what your own plan allows, and we are happy to talk it through with them.

  • Bring your plan number and your plan manager's contact details to the first appointment.
  • If you have a support coordinator, tell us and we will copy them into the paperwork.
  • If you are self managed, keep our invoices. The portal asks for the provider name, the date and the service description.
Common questions

Questions we get asked

Do I need SportsFit to be a registered NDIS provider?
No, as long as your plan is plan managed or self managed. Only agency managed plans are restricted to registered providers.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
Not for physiotherapy or exercise physiology under the NDIS. A referral is only needed if you are also claiming through Medicare or a workers compensation or CTP insurer.
How do I find out how my plan is managed?
It is stated on the front page of your NDIS plan. You can also check the myplace portal, ask your Local Area Coordinator, or call the NDIS on 1800 800 110.
Can I use my NDIS funding at both clinics?
Yes. Five Dock and Gladesville are the same practice, so one service agreement covers both. Some equipment, such as the anti-gravity treadmill, is only at Five Dock.
